THINGS TO DO: Take the free public trolley to go anywhere on the island day and night. Or rent a bike or scooter and go anywhere you want around the island, or take a boat or kayak into the bay to get close to the dolphins and manatees (yes, we really see them all the time, and up close too). Restaurants offer a variety of fares, from fresh seafood to German to world class BBQ and pizza (Mr. Bones and Omas). And everything is only minutes away.

This is the sport fishing capital of the world - get in on the action. Contact the chamber of commerce for a list of captains operating off the island, or look in the yellow pages for a full listing of the area. Check out Moat Marine or nearby Sarasota Jungle Gardens for a learning experience you and your kids will remember. Want to get a little closer to nature? Visit nearby Myakka Sate Park, Florida's largest. Take an airboat ride, or rent a canoe, and see gators and wildlife REALLY close. Or just take a picnic to enjoy under the shade of a live oak covered with Spanish moss at one of the rest sites.
