First published usage of the word "fauxk"...November 26, 2019

by Dave Williams, a Portland, Oregon "Folk Singer"

In this age of "fake news", "fake this" and "fake that", I have become concerned that sooner or later the forces of chaos in our world will start using Folk music, Folk songs and Folk singing to spread lies and disinformation.  Accordingly, I am, by this first public use, proposing a new word: "fauxk" to describe such perversion of this beloved form of art and expression.  I propose that the word be pronounced as "pho", then a slight hesitation, then the "k" sound.

I am also, with this proposal, offering a link to my song "Propaganda Blues" which I wrote out of frustration for what seems to be the fatal flaw of the First Amendment... it is unchecked lying as could never be imagined by the Founding Fathers of our country.  Those old timers could not, in their wildest dreams imagine mass media as it now exists.  Clearly, this has brought us (and by "us", I include all humanity to a watershed.   Something needs to be done.  I have no idea what that might be.

So, I'm asking... how to we change direction to avoid what seems inevitable... Babylon... the real thing.

I am including the lyrics to "Propaganda Blues" at the bottom of this page.

The following words ... Faux music, Faux songs and Faux singing... are placed here as fodder for search engines.

Propaganda Blues by Dave Williams...
I suggest use of Patrick Sky's great old song, "Separation Blues" for the melody.  Thanks Patrick... you are the best!

G                                                             D
I'll tell you 'bout something that drives me up the wall
                                                                G

Politicians' freely lying, how it affects us all
                                               G7

they tell a handy lie the public is coerced
                 C                               A7

and I think we need to blame the amendment that comes first
                   G                        C                  D         G

'Cause you know, we got, we got the propaganda blues

How about the phony products advertising sells?
with a copper threaded jockstrap I'll be feelin' swell
ain't no law to prevent these lies
they got the goods to sell if you're dumb enough to buy
'Cause you know we got, we got the propaganda blues

When they wrote down the rules for this land of ours things were much
 different then

if a man told a lie on the town hall steps, that's where that lie would end
and the town newspaper mostly told the truth
said the town newspaper mostly told the truth
the town newspaper mostly told the truth and it all worked out at the voting booth
No such thing as propaganda blues.

Time marching onward and changes came
the telegraph and railroads made a brand new game
information moving fast to quench the public thirst
politicians in cahoots with William Randolph Hearst
that was the start, the start of propaganda blues

Well here we need to mention a dude from academe
In the 20's Edward Bernays laid out the scheme
manipulate the public with psychology
it was the advertising game in its infancy
here comes, here comes the propaganda blues.

It was in the 1930's, the German people fell
for Nazi propaganda which cast its spell
turned good people bad and bad people worse
tens of millions died because of this curse
the whole world got, got the propaganda blues

A couple decades passed, and just like that TV was every where
the talking heads... sometimes lied, but no one seemed to care
folks see it on TV and they think its true
yes, they see it on TV and they think its true
the ad men jumped aboard, the politicians too, you want the Brooklyn bridge hey we'll ship it out to you
It got worse, got worse the propaganda blues.

a certain cable news network soon came to be
you could push any message if you paid their fee
in back rooms the fat cats run the game
the crooks they elect simply have no shame
way bad, way bad the propaganda blues

it sure took some smart people to invent the Internet
at first it seemed a god send for man's needs unmet
but there was way more to it than the eye could see
now changing people's thoughts is an industry
yeah we got, got the the propaganda blues

that old first amendment written long ago was a blessing now it's a curse
the lies it protects and adverse effects have gone from bad to worse
if laws don't work out just like they should
said if laws don't work out just like they should
if a law don't work out just like it should, need to change that law cause the law's no good.

lets stop, lets stop the propaganda.
lets stop, lets stop the propaganda.
lets stop, lets stop the propaganda blues
